Did you know that the City of Ellensburg offers an additional solar incentive? Ellensburg City Council authorized the use of $75,000 of City Light Dept. Conservation Funds in 2018 to promote renewable energy systems. This provides a one-time payment of $1,000 for every kilowatt of solar installed up to 5kw. Which means if you installed a 5kw system you would receive a one-time payment of $5,000 from the City of Ellensburg. This incentive is in addition to net metering, the 30% federal tax credit, and the state utility incentive!
This incentive works on a first come, first serve basis so if you are interested we'd need to get an application in soon. The City also thinks 2018 will be the last year they offer this incentive so don't miss out!
Washington State University Energy Program is taking over the admin side of the Washington’s renewable energy system incentive program from the Department of Revenue. Sometime this month the paperwork for certification will be released. All existing systems under the Legacy program need to be re-certified by April 30th 2018 to remain eligible for their incentive payments until 2020. There is no fee to re-certify a system. Once the online application has been released we will contact all existing customers with more information.
With the Solar Jobs Bill passing early last month we now have a better idea of the changes coming to the utility incentive program.
Legacy Program: Existing customers will have their rates frozen at their last year (2016) rates. They will receive this rate until June 31st 2020. Existing customers will have to reapply to WSU by 4/30/2018 to continue to receive their incentive until 2020.
New Program: The new program will take effect October 1st. New installations in 2018 will receive $0.21 per kilowatt hour (Washington Made Equipment) up to $5,000 a year for 8 years or until 50% of the cost of system is recouped. The starting incentive rates step down over time, meaning installations in 2019 will have a lower rate than 2018 installation and so on until 2021.
Along with the new program the Sales Tax Exemption incentive will expire on October 1st.
For more information about the changes you can review the SIW's summary sheet.
We recently installed this neat off-grid system for the irrigation at a golf course. This was a fun project where we had to get creative in finding the best solution. We think it turned out great! We can provide a solution for almost any setup.
